If you are interested in getting chin, cheeks, lips and nose fillers, here are the basic facts that you need to know before getting this non-surgical facelift.

1. What are dermal fillers?

Dermal filler is a substance that is injected into the skin in order to plump it up and to make the wrinkles less noticeable. This is considered to be a less invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery.

Hyaluronic acid is the most common dermal filler used. It is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin. It assists in skin hydration by attracting water and locking it in the structures resulting to better moisture. It also improves the skin’s structure and elasticity by combining with collagen and elastin. Examples of Hyaluronic acid fillers are Restylane and Juvederm.

2. What are the advantages of Dermal fillers?

After age 30, we all lose approximately 1% of hyaluronic acid from our bodies. And as we grow older, the underlying fat and collagen also diminish causing the skin to sag and result in wrinkles, face starts to lack volume and lips start to thin, and turning down the corners of the lips.

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are then injected extraorally right underneath these folds to replace the volume lost which creates a younger look in the face.

Fillers, however, come in different thicknesses, and in general, the thicker the product, the deeper it is injected into the dermis  to help plump out fine to deep lines and wrinkles.

Unlike other cosmetic facial injections, it does not affect your ability to display facial expressions, but rather it allows you to subtly control your looks as you age.

It is only in rare occasions when complications from dermal fillers occur. But if ever something does come up, it can be resolved with the help of certain treatments prescribe by your doctor, or it may simply go away once the substance has already gone through its course of effectiveness.
